Have you seen the prices on laundry detergent lately?  Ridiculous!  If you have never made your own, it is something you should definitely give a try.  Roll up your sleeves, get out the grater, and find a container. It’s time to learn to make your own DIY homemade laundry detergent.

DIY HomeMade Laundry Detergent

Not only is making your own laundry detergent more economical but I personally prefer it over the highly chemical detergent available in your local store.

Let’s take a look at the money saving aspect of DIY detergent.

My personal preference on store bought detergent is Gain.

I found these prices on Amazon for costs comparison.

Gain Original Powder – 34 oz. – 30 loads – $9.99 – $0.33 per load

Tide Ultra Powder – 143 oz. – 102 loads – $26.72 – $0.26 per load

I can make my own for less than $0.10 per load.

The ingredients are readily available and easy to find.

Ingredients

1 bar of laundry soap – I use Fels Naptha

1 cup – 20 Mule Team Borax

1 cup – Super Washing Soda

All three ingredients should be in your laundry care aisle.

You can add Oxi-Clean from the Dollar Tree if you choose.

Preparation

Start by grating the laundry soap into a container.  A regular cheese grater works fine.  Add the Borax and washing soda.  Stir and you are done.

You can mix in a blender if you want a finer mixture.

Store in an airtight container.
